Five for Friday (June 28)

Hip hip hooray, it's FRIDAY! You know what that means...

Here are my five:

1. I am finished with grad school classes for the summer!!! Soooo happy about this! (But I still have two papers due... how does that work?)

2. I ordered some items for my classroom from Vistaprint, and it came in! I actually bought a Groupon and got all of this for $17 AND I got cash back by buying the Groupon through Ebates!! If  you don't have an Ebates account you should definitely get one. It is basically gives you free money for buying things online.

I bought some thank you cards, note pads, a shirt to wear on the 100th day of school and a stamp! How cute?! The stamp idea came from Kinder-Craze. It is used to motivate kids towards the end of the year. (I know I'm planning waaayy ahead.) Click here to see the tutorial Maria made and make your own!

3. I have FINALLY started making some decorations for my classroom. Last year, I felt like I just threw everything together because it was my first year and I didn't have a lot of time to set up. This year, I really want to make EVERYTHING match! Buuut the only thing I have finished is my new Polka Dot Alphabet Posters. I've got to get going!

4. Don't forget to enter my Bloglovin' giveaway! The big switch is coming on Monday. I am really not quite sure what all of this will mean... but I am preparing just in case!

5. I will be out of the country on vacation soon (11 more days!!!!) and I would LOVE to have some guest bloggers while I am gone! It will be my first time to do this and I am excited about it!! If you would like to help take care of my blog for a day, email me at k3connection@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you!

Have an amazing weekend!

Throwback Thursday!

Hey friends!

This is my first time linking up with Cara from The First Grade Parade for Throwback Thursday! I hadn't heard of this before, but basically what you do is link up with an old post you want to look back on. Fun!

I haven't been blogging very long and my firsts posts stunk were not the best, so I will be "throwing back" to just the beginning of this month! This was my "How to Make the Most of Your Scholastic Book Clubs Orders" post. Here it is if you missed it the first time...

I am sharing 5 easy tips on how to make the most of your Scholastic Book Clubs Orders (and how get lots of free stuff!). There is nothing difficult or crazy on this list. It is really about strategy. Some of these ideas took a while for me to figure out, so I hope that there is at least one thing you didn't know about or haven’t thought of yet.

1.     If you haven’t signed up, then you should sign up (of course). The key here is to get someone to refer you.  With most referral programs, only the person who does the referring gets rewarded. With Book Clubs, both people get rewarded with 250 bonus points! All you have to do is find someone who orders already, and get their customer number.  Viola! 250 bonus points for you both! (If you are a new teacher, be sure to indicate that when you sign up. They send new teachers 10 free book coupons.)

2.      Be smart about when you submit your orders.  Scholastic has different rewards you can earn at different times of the year. They change them up, but this past year they have made it where you get $10 free to spend instantly for each $20 order you enter. (Sometimes they let you earn $20 for each $20 order.) It is definitely worth it to…
·         Wait until you have $20 worth of orders to submit them. I am not saying wait three months for your orders to add up to twenty bucks, but don’t get excited about your first order and submit it right away. Set a due date and wait until it approaches to put in your class order. You know there are always those that wait until the very. last. minute. You don’t want to miss out on free stuff because you didn’t submit your orders the right way.
·         Submit each $20 order separately.  There is no limit on the amount of orders you can submit. You get $10 (or more) to spend for each $20 order, so why not submit each $20 order separately?

3.      Encourage your parents to order online. It is easier for both you and the parents when they do this.  There are also benefits for both the teacher and parent. You receive a $3 coupon for each online order and the parent receives a free book coupon to use on their next order. The $3 coupons can be stacked and they sure do add up! When you send your orders home, make sure you include the class code and directions for the parents to order online. If you use the letter to parents that scholastic provides on their website, this information is included already.

4.     Take pictures of free book coupons before you send them home. This may seem like an odd tip, but trust me you’ll be glad you did. Sometimes scholastic sends free book coupons for you to send home with your students.  Before you send them home, snap a picture of them or write down the code that is on the coupon. Why? Parents do not always take advantage of the coupons. (I will never understand why.) There is also some sort of error in the system when it comes to using these. You are supposed to spend $5 in order to get one free book. However, in my experience, as long as your order equals $5 the system allows you to use as many of these coupons as you want. Even if you don’t have a single student that orders, it is definitely worth it to spend the five bucks so that you can use a ton of book coupons. I have used 15 on a single order before. So snap those pictures!!

5.       Refer your friends. Simple as that. You get 250 bonus points for each person you refer. All you have to do is give them your customer number and have them enter it when they sign up. Scholastic also has forms that you can easily print and hand out to your fellow teachers. It is not a hard thing to do, especially when they see all the free stuff you get with these tips!

Below are some of the free things I have gotten from Book Clubs in the past year. I don’t always get a ton of stuff, but sometimes I am very pleased with the loot I get. =) I did not spend a single dollar and received everything pictured for free. Each picture shows one separate order.

I hope this helped give you some new ideas!
Do you have any other tips/tricks you use? I would love to hear them!

A Very Random Five for Friday (June 14)

TGIF! I am linking up with Five for Friday in celebration!

1. Grad school is killing me! BUT I am already halfway through with my two summer classes!!! July cannot come soon enough for me!

2. Because of grad school, I haven't had ANY free time to work on creating products for next year. =( I really want to finish my polka dot classroom decor, but it is just going to have to wait.

3. If you are back in school like I am, I have some info you may be very happy to hear! Did you know you can get amazon prime for FREE (for six months) if you have a .edu email address?? Um AWESOME! Click the picture below to check it out.

If you just received your  degree, you could even use your old school email address! I was so stinking excited to find out about this! I order from amazon all. the. time.

4. I reached 100 followers earlier this week! So exciting! If you would like to donate to my 100 Follower Giveaway click the picture below and fill out the form. I would REALLY appreciate it and be happy to return the favor! =)

5. Have you heard of Birchbox? I received my June box this week and was so excited! It always makes my day when my box arrives. Here is a pic! Here is a picture of my June box. Click it to go to the site.

If you don't know about Birchbox, I will give you a short rundown. Basically, for ten dollars a month you receive a box of high-quality samples delivered to your door. I love it because I don't usually spend money on these types of products, but for ten dollars it is fun to get and play around with. You can also receive discounts or earn points to go towards buying the full size product if you like them! It is so popular that you actually have to be put on a wait list for a little while before you can receive your first box.

June Currently

It is June already, which means I am linking up with Farley for her Currently linky.

CURRENTLY

Listening to: Cinderella--believe it or not the bf picked it! We love Disney movies.

Loving: that I just got to spend time with the fam. This weekend, I visited my grandparents I usually only see once a year or less. It was so nice to be able to spend some time with them!

Thinking: about a lot of decisions I have to make soon. Aren't we all doing that ALWAYS?! I know I can't be the only one.

Wanting: it to be JULY! I am SO ready for my family vacation this summer.

Needing: to finish reading for grad school. My first day is tomorrow! I had a whole four days between school and grad school, and they were spent traveling. Sooo I am not so motivated to get my reading done yet. That is not long enough of a break for me!

3 Vacay Essentials: Cute dresses--my sister and I always dress up and take pictures each night of vacation. Bikini--duh. We spend all day out on the beach. Ipod--a must when laying out!

Now you go link up with Farley! BUT FIRST--

Don't forget that my pencil sharpener giveaway ends tonight!! You won't want to miss out, it's only the greatest sharpener ever!
